An existing non-profit organization wants to create a new and innovative direct mail ad. The design and layout choice can be anything from a simple postcard to an interactive experience. The idea is to make an appealing and interesting idea so the user will want to interact with your design.

Since we got to pick our organization I decided to pick something that I love and that’s the ocean, so Coral Reef Alliance was an obvious pick. When thinking of a design for the direct mailer I wanted something that the user could get something out of, so I decided on a foldable poster. I started with some thumbnail sketches to get some ideas I picked the poster idea, and from there it was rough. It started a little rocky, with just getting the colours and the general layout down. From there I got the main idea of having the ocean scale down from the top to the deep depths of the ocean, at the bottom you’ll see the bright coral reef to draw the user’s eye down. Through the mailer, there is a variety of ocean life incorporated to keep the user’s attention and to put a fun twist on some new information.
